Gwen Bell

Some people get it. By extension, then, some (most?) people don't get it. Gwen Bell is one of those people who clearly gets it. The first time I read her website, a whole lot of things clicked for me. I'm not prepared (at the moment) to adopt her lifestyle and business model, but I like her presence, how articulate she is, and how key points are explained thoroughly enough to eliminate the frequent response: "Yeah, I've heard of her and read some of her stuff."

No, it resonated with me. So much so that I paid money to get her frequent email program about Aligning Your Website. The emails have been thought-provoking and well worth the money. You can't just read them, though, like you would an article in this morning's Wall Street Journal. Each email requires honesty and deep reflection.

As an example of what's on her website, here's an interview with Patrick O'Keefe on How to Become a Professional Speaker.

And here are her Guiding Principles.

How much did it move me? I called up the firm designing her website (Language Department in NYC) and told them to pass along to her that I'd give her one-hour of my best advice on marketing herself, free of charge. I'm beginning a new phase in my career, trying to work with good people who are driven by purpose. That has led to me frequently asking prospective clients this question: "What are you doing as a firm that is so compelling that I should work for you?"

I think Gwen Bell would like that question.
